In this episode, I interview Reverend Joanna Fontaine Crawford, lead minister for the Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Church in Cedar Park, Texas. Joanna talks about her experience growing up a UU in Texas, how she came into the ministry, and the importance of building a spiritual community outside of traditional religions.
UU minister
Rev. Joanna Fontaine Crawford has been the lead minister of Live Oak since August 2014, after serving at the multi-site First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston. As part of the requirements for becoming an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister, she earned a Master of Divinity degree from the ecumenical seminary Houston Graduate School of Theology; did a dual internship with Northwoods UU Church in The Woodlands and the Church of the Larger Fellowship, an international online UU church; and completed hospital chaplaincy training at the Methodist Hospital of Houston.
After being pestered by her teenage children to explore TikTok, she fell in love with it as an educational platform. In 2013, she began sharing information about Unitarian Universalism on it, as “Rev. Jo, UU” and currently has 58K followers.
